As an HPN member, you have a wide range of effective and affordable outpatient prescription medications. If you’re concerned about out-of-pocket costs, we recommend you use generic versions of brand name medications. Generic medications are approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and contain the same active ingredient(s), strength and dosage form as the brand name counterpart.

We maintain a Preferred Drug List (PDL) for prescribing clinically sound, yet cost-effective medications. Your prescription cost is lower when you use a generic medication listed on the PDL. This list is developed by our Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee, which includes actively practicing primary care and specialty care providers, pharmacists and other health care professionals.

The Preferred Drug List does not apply to all Prescription Drug Benefit Plans. Copayment amounts and the availability of certain prescription drugs may vary by plan. Plan documents govern in resolving any benefits questions or payments.
